In the Town Hall of Clinton, Connecticut, the First Selectman came to welcome one new American resident and his family to the neighborhood.

“This beautiful man was a refugee from Syria, [and is] grateful to be in the USA,” writes local Help-Portrait Event Director Stephanie Rosally-Kaplan. “He wanted to have the flag in all his pictures, and was so happy that he and his family were given prints. This was their first professional photograph.”

Photographer Randall Mena captured these portraits and is himself an immigrant, having come to the United States about 15 years ago.

“A grandfather and his grandson had so much love to witness,” says Stephanie. “The grandpa is has a huge positive role in his grandson’s life.”

Sixty people received portraits at this event. Stephanie adds that with just two photographers, they would love to see more volunteers help out in future events. To join Stephanie in Clinton, or to find a Help-Portrait group near you, visit our Getting Started page.
